Contrary to Inigo’s current line of thinking, it is not just Li Lianhua’s door. Indeed, with Li Lianhua currently preoccupied with dessert related activities, it’s going to be Di Feisheng’s door, not that he has any feeling of responsibility about it. Or any kind of forewarning about people knocking on it, beyond that suggested by desserts in the first place, which is very hit or miss.
So it is that the one opening the door on poor bundled Inigo is perhaps not the host he’s expecting, but rather a very neutral-of-affect Di Feisheng. Beyond an inscrutable look at the scarf, recognition does not destabilize the neutrality whatsoever. It is possible this is on purpose. The beat he waits before addressing this visitor to Be Loud and Disrespectful Manor is only the tiniest fraction too long.
Forget everything that happened with Vaeros. Forget all the changes about this place that have made Inigo so terribly worried about all of his friends, especially the ones with more failing health. Nothing is more terrifying than going over to Li Lianhua's place only to be greeted at the door by someone who is, decidedly, not Li Lianhua. If it was Fang Duobing, then Inigo could have handled it, though it might lead to some awkward questions about why he's there.
But Di Feisheng? Of all people? Just that look on his face feels like it might just kill Inigo if he stares at it for slightly too long, and he can instantly feel himself growing so nervous under - what he perceives to be - the scrutiny of that look.
"I-- I, erm--"
Sweating. It's super cold out, but Inigo is internally sweating bullets at this point. What does he mean, 'which one'? Why does he talk in a way that's so scary to someone who's already shy in the first place?!
"I.. I came to see Li Lianhua, I-- I already told him about it.." Yes, he has to add that last part, as if he's afraid Di Feisheng will literally kick him away from the house unless Inigo has a valid reason to be here in the first place.
Inigo isn't wrong. The perceived scrutiny is real, though it's more just. A mild curiosityfiltered through terminal resting bitch face. He's allowed some of that, by dint of living here and having some kind of karmic entanglement with the ones Inigo is actually here for. But there's a long way between curiosity and kicking Inigo back down the path from the door. It's not his house, he just made the sign. Far from guarding the occupants unconditionally, he's as equally likely to inflict any problem that turns up on the doorstep on them, if he thinks it's deserved or just very funny.
And whatever this is, it's clearly deserved. Not even a surprise. Di Feisheng just nods, ceases obstructing the doorway in a way that implies invitation, or at least Di Feisheng's doneness with door duty, sends a glance towards the kitchen. Inigo making such a point that he 'told him about it,' like people don't just break in sometimes in this house. It's like Inigo doesn't even read the plaque. "I think he's making you food. Good luck."
Despite the fact that Di Feisheng is not doing any of the terrifying things Inigo imagines the man could do to him, Inigo still looks nervous.
In fact, the thing that seems to first distract him from said nerves isn't anything Di Feisheng says at all. It's instead surprise that's born on Inigo's face due to someone else's actions entirely.
".. he's making me food?"
Inigo sounds so puzzled. That's definitely not what he asked Li Lianhua to do.. It's not even close to it!
And while he's a touch worried about asking Di Feisheng this, Inigo also knows better than to ever expect a straightforward answer out of Li Lianhua. Which means this might be his last chance to gain some more information about this. "Why-- Why do you think he's making me food?"
Please explain what's happening here to him, Di Feisheng.. You speak tiger, Inigo doesn't!!
What can possibly be so baffling about food from Li Lianhua? It's Li Lianhua, surely Inigo is familiar with the high likelihood of food that any interactions with him entail. Sometimes the hangers-on bring or order food, sometimes Li Lianhua inflicts it upon them, sometimes for inscrutable reasons the food is even visibly more normal and positively received, but whatever the specifics, it's not uncommon at all and even he knows this. Di Feisheng is back to inspecting Inigo who seems to have so many treacherous gaps in his education; this yields no insight and probably isn't very reassuring either. Why indeed. He is not even getting paid for this explanation.
"He's making you food because it's his house and he likes doing that. Anything else he says is lies and nonsense. Even the ones who break in wind up eating." He can't even say it's because Li Lianhua likes this nervy little guy, the food would be there even if Inigo was a terrible pest, it would just be worse food, and even that doesn't hold a hundred percent. Di Feisheng can only shrug helplessly in the face of being asked to explain sky-blue realities. What else even is there for it? "I can tell him you don't want it but it might be too late."
Nonetheless, Di Feisheng seems more than half decided on doing just that. It won't be him that's rude, he's just a messenger and door operator, after all. Rip to Inigo tho.
It's said rather intensely - maybe even more intensely if Di Feisheng looked like he was making even the slightest movement to actually start heading into the house to tell Li Lianhua that. Inigo's face is starting to get so red that it's almost making his blue hair look purple with its reflection.
"No, no, no-- I-- I'll eat! I'll eat!" This is the plea of a prisoner who has decided to accept a poisoned meal.. It sounds that level of desperate and terrified, anyway. But Inigo absolutely can't have Li Lianhua thinking that Inigo won't eat his food. That would probably be a terrible insult, and then he'll get kicked out of the house, and he'd feel awful about that. "It's just-- This is new? It's new! People don't usually do this, and I-- It's, uh--"
Yes, he's just rambling now. Rambling and wildly gesturing. Inigo goes quiet for a moment, but it's likely more because he doesn't even know what to say, having rambled too much already.
Something about him seems to wilt as he asks: "Should-- Should I come in?"
Look at the puppy eyes, Di Feisheng. There's so much of that going on here right now.
It's an extreme response, but it's just as well. Li Lianhua wouldn't kill Inigo on the spot, but he might be tetchy to deal with for a seemingly interminable amount of time after such a social misstep. Maybe even take it out on the willing sufferers at hand with even worse food for being denied his fun playing host. Di Feisheng JUST thought he'd check, and mess with Inigo a little further, but real elucidation does not seem to be forthcoming and chances are high Inigo is just Like This. The puppy eyes don't have any effect, but he feels enough mercy to put Inigo out of his misery anyway. It is literally just food, hospitality, normal things. More normalcy than this house should have any claim to, in all honesty.
"Yes. It's too cold to eat outside." Inigo apparently needs the clearest cut invitation possible, but Di Feisheng can't resist a final food based threat before leading Inigo kitchenward. He'll give everyone some face by not talking about breaking in any more, as an act of magnanimity, even though there is patently no point in standing on ceremony. And it's best to keep things airtight, both in terms of Inigo's comprehension and Di Feisheng's fire related chores. "Close the door behind you."
"Y-- Yes!" Inigo truly is sounding like the most nervous soldier in bootcamp today. Honestly, Di Feisheng didn't even need to attend him to the door. Inigo is polite enough to have closed it out of sheer instinct, but Di Feisheng's company definitely makes him terrified of making a social misstep here. Maybe Di Feisheng would murder him on the spot for it.
.. Inigo's mind - and anxiety - contemplate that possibility for a moment, and deem it likely enough that he even takes off his boots at the door, terrified of what the punishment of tracking mud through the house could be, and then quickly moves after the other man.
He'll stay quiet otherwise. It's your job to tell Li Lianhua that Inigo is here now, Di Feisheng.. Inigo can't speak unless someone tells him it's okay now!!
